N – no-shows
A recent survey of 3,000 organizations answered two key questions on the topic of appointment reminder notifications and how they impact patient no-show rates.
Question 1: Are appointment reminders truly effective at preventing no-shows?
It’s a valid question. If you’re devoting staff time and dollars to the reminder process, don’t you want to know that it’s making an impact? Don’t worry – it is. Survey participants reported that 47% of practices that do not send appointment reminders have an average no-show rate of over 10%. In contrast, no-show rates of over 10% can only be found in 27% of practices that deliver appointment reminders to their patients.
So reminders work. Awesome. But which method works best?
Question 2: Which reminder method works best – mailers or phone calls?
They’re the two most common ways practices remind their patients, so we asked survey participants about their reminder methods and their outcomes. The results weren’t even close. 52% of practices that mail reminders have a no-show rate over 10%, and that figure is cut in half for practices that contact patients via phone. Only 26% have a no-show rate that high.
According to the 3,000 survey participants, appointment reminders really do work, and the phone reminders are much more effective than those sent through the mail. Click HERE for more insight into an effective appointment reminder strategy for your patients!
