The American Hospital Association released its 2018 Environmental Scan, an in-depth look at the forces shaping the future of healthcare. The goal of this report is to identify what is driving change and to help hospitals and healthcare prepare for the future by developing new strategies.
The AHA has prepared organized the 2018 trends into six categories to help hospital leaders navigate change in the year ahead.
“Our field knows how to be nimble, stay focused and manage change,” said Rick Pollack, president and CEO of the American Hospital System. “These traits will help us to navigate the road ahead.”
Affordability plays a key role in advancing access to healthcare. Hospitals have done significant work to control costs, but rising healthcare costs, high deductibles and the percentage of household spending for healthcare has consumers worried.
These findings mirror a West report that reveals almost all Americans feel healthcare is too expensive. More than half delay paying medical bills and cite high deductibles as the number one reason for missed payments.
Read the full revenue cycle report to find out how healthcare providers can reduce delayed payments and increase revenues by communicating with patients about healthcare costs.
