If you’ve never visited before, click to check out Diabetes.org, where the American Diabetes Association hosts great resources to increase awareness during the month of November.
One cool campaign they are promoting is attempting the capture the “true picture” of living with diabetes. Visitors are invited to upload photos through Facebook that show what living with diabetes on a daily basis means to them. CVS/pharmacy has even agreed to donate $1 (up to $25,000) for each picture uploaded!
While you’re on the American Diabetes Association’s website, you’ll also see these eye-opening statistics about the prevalence of this disease and its impact on U.S. medical costs:
- Nearly 26 million children and adults in the United States have diabetes.
- Another 79 million Americans have prediabetes and are at risk for developing type 2 diabetes.
- The American Diabetes Association estimates that the total national cost of diagnosed diabetes in the United States in $174 billion.
Each November, many healthcare organizations work with TeleVox to promote American Diabetes Month and further engage patients in their ongoing health. They’ll deliver a brief communication with reminders about the importance of screenings, valuable wellness tips and more. If you have a similar interest in communicating with your patients about diabetes this month (or ANY month), don’t hesitate to get in touch with us. We’ll share some ideas on messages you can communicate to patients to increase awareness, schedule exams and more!
