In early June, Google rolled out Google My Business – a new unified interface that’s designed to make life easier for local businesses as well as brands so they can be more easily found within the Google landscape. Google My Business is a very big change that is being well received.
Since Google+ Local was introduced, managing local listings and content across Google has been confusing to just about everybody. The idea behind the new tool is to make it simpler than ever to update business info across Google Search, Maps and Google Plus. In short, the service is a no-cost and easy way to locate and connect with your customers. Business owners who were already using Places for Business and the prior version of Google+ dashboard will automatically be upgraded to Google My Business.
A highlight of the new service is the fact that it pulls in custom integrations with AdWords Express which will assist business owners in better understanding how people are finding them on Google, what they’re clicking on and where they’re coming from when clicking on directions and other trends. This will provide businesses, brands and organizations more information about their Google+ followers and content, demographic data, visibility and engagement metrics. There is even a mobile application available which allows users to do all this while on the move from either a smartphone or tablet.
There are many ways Google My Business will prove helpful for local businesses including:
- Staying updated – Businesses can update their information such as address, contact info, hours of operation and more on Search, Maps and Google+ from one location so that customers can easily locate and connect with them.
- Showing how your business is unique – A business can add stunning photographs, videos and virtual tours to show customers how their business is unique.
- Connecting with customers – Businesses can easily share information such as news and events and stay abreast of reviews being written by them. In addition to being read, reviews also can be responded to.
- Mobile optimization – Businesses can manage all their information while on the move via a smartphone or tablet app.
The simplifying and pulling together of features that formerly caused a whole lot of head scratching is also being welcomed by national businesses that lack physical addresses or businesses that manage non-local Google+ pages. National brands, organizations and other groups can create brand pages that don’t include address or other physical location information that appears on Google Maps.
The goal of Google My Business is to make life simpler for business owners, marketers and brands by offering a unified interface that integrates information from numerous Google properties including Google Plus, Maps, Search and Adwords into a single location. The new service is being well received by local business owners especially as the clean interface offers quick and easy access to a suite of powerful promotional tools.
