The last thing many orthodontists want to deal with is dental practice marketing. Unfortunately, if you don’t devote some time to marketing you may find that your practice isn’t as successful as you’d like for it to be. Rather than viewing marketing as a source of frustration and confusion, it’s better to view it as a creative project and something that you can have a little fun with. No matter which approach you choose to take, it’s best to do it the right way to save time and to achieve the best results.
1. Create a Referral Reward Program for Current Patients
Don’t be afraid to ask your patients to tell their friends and family about you. Many people are either uneasy or afraid about visiting a practice for the first time. Naturally, many people prefer to see an orthodontist recommended by someone they trust, and new patients can easily be put at ease with word-of-mouth marketing. Reward patients that bring in new business with a gift card or another small thank you gift. They will always appreciate the gesture and feel motivated to refer more patients.
2. Find Out When Your Local Dentists Celebrate Their Birthdays
Reach out to local dentists just as much as you reach out to your patients. Find out when the dentists in the area celebrate their birthdays and send them a cake and card. The key with this particular tip is to make anything you send them personalized. You can treat their entire office to a surprise lunch dessert. At the very least, have their name put on the cake and the name of their practice. Small and intimate gestures can go a long way in getting the right referrals from local dentists.
3. Have a Patient Appreciation Day
To let your patients know just how much you appreciate them, pick one day out of the year to show them what they mean to you. Consider renting out a laser tag arena, movie theatre or bowling alley. Give each patient three free tickets for them and two guests. This is a great way to get to know your patients better and potentially bring in some new business. Patients’ parents and friends can see just how much you appreciate your current patients.
4. Create Comp Cards
Send out special comp cards to all of your new patients with a deal for a free exam, visit or any type of treatment that you specialize in. Patients love receiving free gifts, and they love telling their friends and family about the free gift they receive. Word of mouth is one of the most powerful and effective marketing tools, so make sure that you put it to good use. Other good ideas include giving the cards to local dentist to distribute or mailing them out to old patients that you haven’t seen in a while and any other prospects that you feel could benefit from the comp card.
